Kollywood (Tamil : கோலிவூட் kōlivūṭ) is a name often applied to the home of the Tamil-language film industry based in India, and to the industry as a whole. It is the second largest Film industry in India after Bollywood.(While Tamil language movies are also filmed in Sri Lanka, these are not considered part of Kollywood, and are instead discussed at Cinema of Sri Lanka.) The Kollywood film industry is based in Chennai (formerly known as Madras) in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India(before even the Telugu Film Industry(Tollywood), the Malayalam Film Industry and the Kannada Film Industry had their Film bases in Madras, but later in the 70's they shifted to thier respective cities). The name Kollywood is a conflation of Kodambakkam (an area of Chennai with a high concentration of film studios and in which many people working in the industry live) with the American film industry capital of Hollywood.
